Soft-body physics games

Updated October 2026

Most game physics is rigid: a crate is a crate, and it bounces like a brick. In a soft-body game, things can squash, stretch, wobble and spring back. A jelly cube sags when it lands. A balloon dents when something leans on it. When it's done well, it's one of the most satisfying things a game can do.

Here are soft-body games you can play in a browser or on your phone, plus a couple of classics.

In your browser

Jelly48 ours

Browser · Free

2048, but the tiles are jelly. Swipe to tip the board, and the tiles slide, pile up and squash into each other until matching numbers merge. It's free, has no ads, and works offline once loaded. (More number puzzles: games like 2048.)

Float Away ours

Browser · App Store · Free

A merge game where soft foil balloons float up instead of falling down. They squash together, squeak a little, and merge from 0 to 9.

Jelly Mario

by schteppe · Browser (desktop) · Free

Mario, if everything were made of jelly. It's a classic browser experiment, desktop only.

Softbody Tetris

by Niklas Niehus · Browser · Free

Tetris pieces that squish when they land, built with WebGPU. It's still a work in progress, and fun to poke at.

Jelly Merge

by Matt Hodges · Browser · Free

A soft-body Suika: drop jelly pieces into a box and merge the matching ones.

sobosuba

Browser · Free

Fire numbered jellies into a pile, and matching numbers merge. It sits somewhere between 2048 and Suika.

On your phone

JellyCar Worlds

by Walaber · Apple Arcade · Switch · Steam · PS5 · Xbox

The modern version of the game that made jelly physics famous: "Your car is made of Jelly. So is the world!" You squish a jelly car through jelly levels.

Bloopies

by Yunseok · iOS · Android · Free

A Suika-style game with soft slime pieces.

Jellygon ours

iOS · Free

Wobbly jelly polygons in a cup. Matching shapes squish together and become the next shape up.

Float Away ours

App Store · Free

The balloon game above, on iPhone, with haptics.

Close relatives

World of Goo 2

by 2D Boy and Tomorrow Corporation · iOS · Android · PC · Switch · PS5 · Paid

Its springy goo-ball structures aren't strictly soft bodies, but the game gives you the same pleasure of watching wobbly things hold together (or not).

Car-crash simulators like BeamNG.drive use soft-body physics for vehicle damage. They're a whole genre of their own, and not what this list is about.

What is soft-body physics?

A soft body is a shape that can deform. A common way to simulate one is to build it from many small particles connected by constraints, which work like springs that try to keep the right distance apart. Each frame, the game moves the particles and nudges them back toward their constraints. If the constraints are stiff, you get firm jelly; if they're loose, you get a water balloon.

Our games use a method called XPBD (extended position-based dynamics). It stays stable even with many particles squashed together. How Jelly48's physics works has the details, with pictures.

Questions

Are there soft-body physics games on mobile?

Yes: JellyCar Worlds (Apple Arcade), Bloopies, Jellygon and Float Away, plus World of Goo 2 if you count goo.

Can I play soft-body games online for free?

Yes. Jelly48, Float Away, Jelly Merge, sobosuba and Softbody Tetris all run free in a browser. Jelly48 and Float Away need a browser with WebGPU, such as a recent Chrome or Edge, or Safari 26.

Why do soft-body games feel so satisfying?

Mostly because things react the way your hands expect. A squished object bulges, a dropped one wobbles, and nothing goes rigid at the last moment.
